- Finalize school assignment and grade level.
- Research methods of literature circles.
- Finalize plan for first literature circle.
- Send home parents letter describing action research project. (Back to school night)
- Conduct student survey and DRA assessment.
- Ask students what types of books they enjoy reading to help finalize book choices for students.
- Introduce literature circle roles using picture books.
- September-October: Complete first literature circle as a whole class using Freckle Juice by Judy Blume.
- Have class discussion at the end of first literature circle.
- Revise literacy circles and complete second literature circle giving three book choices.
- Have a class discussion at the end of literature circle.
- Complete literature circle using holiday picture books.
- Create projects for the students to complete after book discussions.
- Discuss process with the whole class.
- Read notes and journal and make necessary changes.
- Students will read and prepare for their weekly Friday meeting.
- Compile data and begin writing paper.
